Each year, the Venerable Guan Cheng rescues and releases sea animals both locally and in China. He also works to improve living conditions in rural China. Your contribution would ensure that the impoverished and disadvantaged people receive food, medical care, education, and other necessities. You could also choose to support the renovation and expansion of our temple. Or, if you wish to help us enrich the world with Buddhist philosophy, you may donate towards the distribution of the abbot’s Dharma Talks in various forms.

Expansion of Worship Halls

Since its establishment in 1981, the International Buddhist Temple has delivered the philosophies of Buddhism to people from all over the world, through meditation, lectures, traditional ceremonies, charitable giving, and impeccable Chinese craftsmanship. To accommodate our growing number of members and visitors, we are expanding our Thousand Buddha Hall and Ksitigarbha (Ancestral) Hall. Please support the effort to improve our facilities, so that we may reach out to a greater population and guide them on their paths to Buddhahood. A donation of any amount would be appreciated. Those who support our cause with donations of $5,000, $2,500, or $1,000 will have their names engraved in stone, at the entrance of the hall they designate.

Aiding Disadvantaged Children and Seniors in China

Our abbot, the Venerable Guan Cheng, established a charity in 2000, in the Guang Dong province of China. It provides humanitarian aid to the sick, elderly, and disabled, as well as underprivileged students in the rural areas of the province. Since then, we at the temple have tirelessly raised funds for the medical expenses and tuition fees of these individuals. We also purchase chairs, tables, and other supplies to improve the living and learning conditions in the areas.
To date, the International Buddhist Temple has gathered and donated approximately CAD$45,000 for this effort. Because our funds are gradually decreasing, we need your help to continue this project. A donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Note: This donation is not eligible for tax-deductible receipt. Please call 604-274-2822 for details.

Emancipation of Lives

Buddhists do not believe in killing for food. In accordance with the Buddhist virtue of compassion for all sentient beings, our abbot, the Venerable Guan Cheng, frees tens of thousands of sea animals locally and in China every year. He does so with a group of volunteers, and personally verifies that the animals are healthy before they are taken out to sea for emancipation. After a Buddhist ceremony, the creatures are carefully and systematically released into the water by the abbot and volunteers.

“There is no greater deed than freeing lives and stopping the killing.?
- Golden Mountain Living Buddha Translation (1912)

If you wish to contribute to our effort to free sea life, a donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Dharma Talk Video Vignettes
(hosted by the Venerable Guan Cheng)

Since 1986, The Venerable Guan Cheng has hosted a daily Dharma Talk radio program on Greater Vancouver’s Overseas Chinese Voice radio station (local AM 1470 & AM 1320). The abbot’s show has also been on Hong Kong’s Metroshowbiz station (FM 99.7) since 2005. Due to the increasing public interest and support, his Dharma Talks have been compiled into CDs and distributed all over North America and Hong Kong.

The International Buddhist Temple wishes to help the world understand the Dharma, using both sound and images, by producing video vignettes of the abbot’s radio Dharma Talks. These videos will also have Chinese subtitles, multiple video clips, and detailed artwork. Once they are complete, the abbot plans to distribute the vignettes internationally through DVDs, and by uploading them onto the temple website (www.buddhisttemple.ca). There is no better way to teach the world about Buddhist philosophy than using the power of the Internet! As video productions require a tremendous amount of resources, the Venerable Guan Cheng needs your help to teach the Dharma.

Please support our cause by contributing $2,500 for the costs of production and distribution of each vignette. You are welcome to support more than one vignette, or even an entire DVD (10-12 vignettes each). In recognition of your generosity, without which the production would not be possible, we will display your name at the start of the particular vignette(s). Everyone will see your kind support of a cause that enriches the world with Buddhist philosophy.
